Although it may not live up to the headline-grabbing iPhone 14 rumors, such as new processors, camera upgrades, or the fate of the notch, Apple’s battery plans seem to be an important detail.
Every aspect of a smartphone’s battery life, from screen refresh rates to 5G connection, is demanding. This puts pressure on manufacturers to improve their products.
A long-lasting power supply can make all the difference, considering how important battery life is for smartphone buyers. There is a big difference between a new, outstanding model and a so-so upgrade.
The iPhone 13 update was released last year. Apple became more focused on how long their smartphones would last without needing to be charged after years of poor battery life. All four iPhone 13 models were equipped with larger cells that their iPhone 12 counterparts. These four iPhone 13 models have significantly improved battery life than their predecessors. The iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max had the best results. on our top 10 phone battery life lists.
Apple can repeat this feat with its iPhone 14 line. There are many ways to increase the battery size without increasing the size your smartphone. Apple will need to find new ways to improve battery life with three of this year’s models remaining the same size as their predecessors (the iPhone 13 mini will, however, be replaced by the larger iPhone 14 Max).
Here are the latest rumors about the iPhone 14’s battery. Also, we have leaked about an additional power management feature: the speed at which the new phones will charge.
iPhone 14 battery sizes: What have we heard?
Before we get into the iPhone 14 rumors. Here’s a look at the iPhone 13 battery sizes. Also, what this meant in terms of time in our battery test? We set each phone’s screen brightness at 150 nits, then asked them to surf the web using cellular until they ran low on power. The timing was also important. We’ll not include the iPhone 13 mini, as Apple may be removing a smaller model from its lineup this year.
These battery sizes are based upon teardowns. Apple doesn’t list the exact size of its power packs. The three listed models not only outperformed their predecessors but also beat the average smartphone’s battery life of fewer than 10 hours.
Although rumors about the iPhone 14’s battery are not common, they are the most reliable. The following battery capacities were reported by Twitter leakers ShrimpApplePro and DuanRui earlier this summer:
- iPhone 14 :3,279mAh
- iPhone 14 Max4,325mAh
- iPhone 14 Pro –3,200mAh
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4,323 mAh
These listed capabilities should not be taken as absolute facts. It’s odd that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro have different battery capacities. This is a slight change from the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro. These are still good numbers. These are rough estimates which give us an indication of the likely approach Apple will take to the iPhone 14 battery sizes.
In this case, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro would both see a slight increase in their respective iPhone 13 counterparts of 3% and 1% respectively. iPhone 14 Pro Max would experience a slight decrease of 1% from iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Although the iPhone 14 Max does not have a predecessor, the 6.7-inch screen of the Pro Max model makes it easy to assume that the battery size will be approximately the same.
The battery size is not the only factor that determines how long a phone will last. The iPhone 14 Pro models will feature Apple’s new A16 Bionic processor, which is expected to play an important role in power management. The new chipset is expected to have improved power efficiency. However, we will need to wait until the launch of the iPhone 14 at Apple’s event September 7, to see how much.
Rumours suggest that the A15 chipset used to power this year’s iPhones will be used in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max. We don’t anticipate any changes in power consumption for iPhone 14, but that’s not a concern for iPhone 14 Max. It’s a newer model, with a Max-sized lithium battery.
The rumored updates to chipsets and batteries would mean that the iPhone 14 Pro models will be better positioned to increase the iPhone 13 Pro’s battery life. If the rumors are true, the iPhone 14 Max will last for a very long time without needing to be charged. The iPhone 14 is expected to feature a slightly larger battery, but the same silicon as the iPhone 13.
iPhone 14 charging speed: What do we know?
Rumours about the speed of the new iPhones charging are still a bit thin. However, we have some good news for those who are considering purchasing an iPhone 14 Pro. A leaker claimed that Apple would increase the speed of the iPhone 14 Pro’s charging from 20W up to 30W, following reports earlier in the year that Apple was working on a 30W charger.
iPhone 13 Pro models are capable of charging a battery down to less than 50% with 20W speeds. This is just half an hour. A 30W iPhone would be able to reach that mark 50% faster.
The rumored 30-W charging is only available for iPhone 14 Pro models. Apple’s current 20W charging speeds are expected to be maintained for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max.
The same port will be used to plug in your charging cable as before. Although rumors had been circulating that Apple would eventually switch to USB-C ports during the iPhone 14 development process, recent leaks indicate that this is unlikely. Apple will continue to use a Lightning port for now. One more year.
iPhone 14 battery outlook
Apple phones have re-established their reputation for being reliable and able to last for a long time. The iPhone 13 models are proof of that. We are hopeful that this year’s iPhone 13 models will be able at least to match the performance of the iPhone 14.
